Senn. CXXX. the Re/urredion of true Chri¡iianr. I. In the mighty Change which shall be made in these vile and mortal Bodies of ours, and the glorious Qualities they shall then be invefted withal. And, II. In the confequent Happinefs of the whole Man, of the soul and Body united and purified. I. In the mighty Change which -shall then be made in thefe vileand mortal Bodies of ours, and the glorious Qualities which they (hall then be invefted_ withal. But wherein this Glory (hall cot-gift, becaufe it is Matter of pure Reve- lation, we muff wholly rely upon Scripture for the particular Account and Ex- plication of it. And there are three Texts of Scripture, wherein this glorious Change which shall be made in ourBodies at the Refurre &ion, is more partial lady mentioned and defcribed. The Fill is, Luke 20. 35, 36. But they whoshall be counted worthy to obtain that World, andthe Refurrellionfrom the Dead, neither marry, norare' in Marriage. This our Saviour fpeaks, becaufe that which occafioned'this Difcourfe concerning theRe furre&ion, was a Que(tion moved by the Sadduces concerning a Woman that had had fven Husbands in her Life-time; upon which they captiously ask'd our Saviour, Whofe Wife of the Seven this Woman should be at the Refiirretlion? To which our Saviour anfwers, by taking away the Foundation of it, telling them; that in the other World theyneither marry, nor aregiven in Marriage. And theRea- fonof this is very obvious; becaufe the Reafon why Men marry now is, becaufe they are mortal, and therefore to preferve and propagate the Kind, which would otherwife fail, Marriage was inftitnted : But in the other World this Reafot will ceafe 5 becaufe then Men Ihall be immortal, and die no more. And there- fore our Saviour, after he had faid, that at the RefurreElion oftheDead, Men neither many, nor are given in Marriage; he immediately adds as the Reafon of it, neither can they die àny more, for theyare equal unto the Angels ; that is, they (hall be like them in the immortal Duration of their Beings ; and are the Children of God, be-. ing" the Children of the Refurrellion. Good Men are now the Children of .God,. itè- Cattle they referable him in theholy Difpofition of their Minds But then they fhall be like him in theParticipation of his Happinefs, fo far as finite and created Beings are capable; the whole Man, the Body as well as the Soul, (hall be Par- takers of immortality. And this is a glorious'Change, for a frail and mortal Body, liable to Pains, and Difeales, and Death,, to become immortal, and freed from all thofe troublefome Accidents, to which they are now liable. The Second Text to,this Purpgfe is, Phil. 3. 2o. But our Converfation is in Heaven, fays St. Paul, fpeaking of true and fìntere Chriftians ; But our Cooveifation is in Heaven, from whence also we lookfor the Saviour, the Lord yefus Chrifl, who fhiall change our vile Body, that it may be fashioned like unto 'his glorious Body, according to the Working of that mighty Power, whereby he h able even to fsbelue all Things to himself. And this is a great Change indeed, whether we confider what our Bodies now are, vile and corruptible: or the Pattern according to which they shall be chan- ged ; They fhall be fashioned like to the glorious Body ofour Welled Sanionr that wherein he now fits in the higheft Heavens, at the Right Handof the Throneof God. And what Glory can we defire`beyond that, with which God thoughtfit to reward his own Son, after all his Obedience and Sufferings ? And this will be the more credible, if we confider the Relation Which the Scripture fooften mentions between Chrift and all true Chriftians. He is the Head, and they are the Members; now there mutt be a Conformity between these. A glorious Head,' and vile Members, would make a mon(trous and irregular Body; nay,.the Head could notbe glorious, if the Members werenot fo too. Or, lafily, if we confi- der the mighty Power which will be put forth for the effe&ing this Change. The Omnipotency of the Son of God will exert it felt in this Work. So the Apoftle here tells us, that theLord ycfioeChriflwill change our vile Body, and fafbïon it like unto his glorious Body, according to the Working of that might. Power, whereby he is able even to f:abdue all Things to himf. lf. Omnipotency will difplay its whole Force in bringing about this Change'. And what cannot that Almighty Power do, which is able to conquer and fubdue alt Things? 5 13b The
