And fo the Apoftie tells us, That Miracles are the great Confirmation Of the Gofpel, and are fo clear an Evidence of the Truth of it, that they rendet all Unbelievers inexcufable, Hob. 2. 2. 3. In particular, the great Weight of the Gofpel is laid upon the Miracle ofChrift'a Refurreetion from the Dead, which. our Saviour mentions as the only Sign that /5suldbegiven to that Generation, that is, the cleareft. And the Apoftle, Rom. I. 4. faith, That he was declared to be the Son of God, withPower, according to the Spirit of Holinef, by the .Refuurreltion from the Dead. This put it out of all Qe. Rion. And Sc. Paul in his Sermon to the Athenians, Aths 17. 30. 3r. infifts up- en this as the great Evidence; And the Times of their Ignorance God winked at; but now coratirandeth allMen every where to repent : Becauje he bath appointed aday in which he wilhjndge the World in Righteoufnefs, by that Man whom he hath ordain'd, Whereof he bath given Affnrance unto all Men, in that he bath raildhim from the Dead. And this was the proper Work of the Apoftles, to be Witnefí-es to the World, of this great Miracle, Alb 1. 21.22. ( z.) What Afïurance of Miracles is fu if tcient to perfwade Men to believe the Revelation or Teftimony, for'the Confirmation of which they are wrought. Of this Affurance there are three Degrees,, all whichdo oblige Men to believe the Di- vine Revelation for which theyare wrought. ( 1. ) If we have the Evidence of our own Senfes for it, that is, if we fee them wrought. This Evidence the Difciples of our. Lord had, and the yews, and there- fore their Unbelief was inexcufable 5 and the Blafpheming of the Spirit whereby they faw fuch Miracles to be wrought, was theSin againft the Holy Ghoft. (z.) If we have the credible Report of Eye.Witneffes of thofe Miracles, who are credible Perkins, and we have no Reafon to doubt of their Teffimony; that is, if we havethe Reports of them immediately from the Mouth of thofe who were Eye.Witneffes of them. That this lays likewife inobligation on Men to believe, appears by our Saviour's Reproof of Thomas, who would not believe except he himfelf few: but molt exprefly from that Text,' Mark r6. 14.
