Senn. CLXVIII. of a Divine Revelation. 447 aggravates the Unbelief, and Impenitency of the yews, becaufe they refitted this highef Evidence, . Mat. i r. W. 2.1. 22,. z3. 2,4. Then began he to upbraid theCities wherein fool! of his mighty Works were done; becaufe they repented not,- Wo unto thee Chorazin, we unto thee Bethfaida: For ifthe mighty Works whichWere done in yen, hadbeen Axe in Tyre and Sidon, they wouldhave repented long ago in Sackcloth and Afhes. Bur 7fay unto you; it _hall be more tolerable for Tyre andSidon at the Day of 'judgment than foryou. And thou Capernaum which art exaltedunto Heaven, fhsit be brought dowse to Hell. For if the mighty Works which have been done in thee, had been done in Sodom, it would have remained until this Day. But Ifay unto you, That it _hall be more tolerable for' the Land of Sodom in the Dayofjudgment, than for thee. John t y. 24. 1f I bad not done among them the Works which none other Man did ; they hadnot hadSin: hut now have they both feen, and hatedboth one and my Father. And fo the Apoftie tells us, That Miracles are the great Confirmation Of the Gofpel, and are fo clear an Evidence of the Truth of it, that they rendet all Unbelievers inexcufable, Hob. 2. 2. 3. For if the Word fpoken by Angels was fledfofl, and every Tranfgrefon and I)ifobedience received a jug Recornpence of Re- ward: How(hall we efrape, if we negleílfo great Salvation, which at theejrflbegan to be fpoken by the Lord, andwas confirmed untous by them that heardhim. In particular, the great Weight of the Gofpel is laid upon the Miracle ofChrift'a Refurreetion from the Dead, which. our Saviour mentions as the only Sign that /5suldbegiven to that Generation, that is, the cleareft. And the Apoftle, Rom. I. 4. faith, That he was declared to be the Son of God, withPower, according to the Spirit of Holinef, by the .Refuurreltion from the Dead. This put it out of all Qe. Rion. And Sc. Paul in his Sermon to the Athenians, Aths 17. 30. 3r. infifts up- en this as the great Evidence; And the Times of their Ignorance God winked at; but now coratirandeth allMen every where to repent : Becauje he bath appointed aday in which he wilhjndge the World in Righteoufnefs, by that Man whom he hath ordain'd, Whereof he bath given Affnrance unto all Men, in that he bath raildhim from the Dead. And this was the proper Work of the Apoftles, to be Witnefí-es to the World, of this great Miracle, Alb 1. 21.22. Wherefore of theft Men which have companiedwith us all the Time that the Lord yefus went inand out amongus, begin- ning from the Baptifm of 'john, unto that fame Day thathe was taken up from us, mull Mae be ordainedto be a Witnefs with us of his Refurretlion. Só St. Peter in his Ser- mon, Ails 2.32. Him bath God railed up, whereof we all are Witneffes, And to Mention no more, Alls ío.38. 39.40. 41. God anointedJefus of, Nazareth with the Holy Gbofl and with Power, whowent about doing Good, andhealing all that were op- preffed of the Devil : for Godwas with him. And we are WitnefJes of all Things which he did both in the Land of the-Yews, and in Hierufalem ; whom they flew and hanged on a Tree : Him God railed up the third Day, and /Dewed him openly 5 not to all the People, but unto Witnefs chofen before of God, even to us who did eat and drink with him after he rote from the Dead. ( z.) What Afïurance of Miracles is fu if tcient to perfwade Men to believe the Revelation or Teftimony, for'the Confirmation of which they are wrought. Of this Affurance there are three Degrees,, all whichdo oblige Men to believe the Di- vine Revelation for which theyare wrought. ( 1. ) If we have the Evidence of our own Senfes for it, that is, if we fee them wrought. This Evidence the Difciples of our. Lord had, and the yews, and there- fore their Unbelief was inexcufable 5 and the Blafpheming of the Spirit whereby they faw fuch Miracles to be wrought, was theSin againft the Holy Ghoft. (z.) If we have the credible Report of Eye.Witneffes of thofe Miracles, who are credible Perkins, and we have no Reafon to doubt of their Teffimony; that is, if we havethe Reports of them immediately from the Mouth of thofe who were Eye.Witneffes of them. That this lays likewife inobligation on Men to believe, appears by our Saviour's Reproof of Thomas, who would not believe except he himfelf few: but molt exprefly from that Text,' Mark r6. 14. He upbraided them with their ?/obeli f and Fiardneft of Heart, becaufe they believednot them whichhad Jean him after he was rifen.. (3) if
