And this was eminently fulfill'd in that he foretold fe- veral future Contingents ; ashis own Crucifixion, Peter's denyal of him ; the De- ftru6t on of Hierufalem, the riling of falfe Chrifis, and falfe Prophets, (which I . shall particularly confider hereafter) the Defcending of the Holy Ghoft, and the admirable fuccefs of the Gofpel in the World ; in that he preached fo pure and perfeét a Doûrine to the World, and with fo much Authority ; a Do nine fo ex- cellent and reafonable, fo fuitable to the Ncceflities, and agreeable to the Keaton of Mankind ; a Do&trine which tendeth fo much to the perfecting of human Na- ture, and to the Peace and Happinefs of human Society, above any other lnftitu- Lion in the World. It was foretold that he fhould do many and great Miracles, and fuch as fhould be beneficial to Men, Ifa. 35. 5, 6. That when he who was the shepherd was fmitten, the Sheepfbould be fcatter'd, Zech. r3. 7. which was accomplifh'd, Matth. 2.7. 56. All the Difciples forfook him, and fled. That he fhould be Scourged, and Buffeted, and Spit upon. Ha. 50. 6.
