Book II.] HYMNS. XXV I I I. XXXII. 9 Proclaim his wonders from the skies, Let ev'ry distant nationhear ; Andwhile you sonad his lofty praise, Let humble modals bow and fear. HYMN XXVIII. [C. M.] Death and eternity. 1 STOOP down, my thoughts, that use to rise, Converse a while with death Think how a gasping mortal lies, And pants away his breath. 2 His quiv'ring lip hangs feebly down, His pulses faint and few, Then, speechless, with a doleful groan, He bids the word adieu. 3 But, oh, the soul that never dies!. At once it leaves the clay! Ye thoughts, pursue it where it flies, And track itswondrous way. 4 Up to the courts where angels dwell, It mounts triumphant there : Or devils plunge it down to hell, In infinite despair. 5 And most my body faint and die? And must this soul remove ? Oh, for some guardian angel nigh, To bear it safe above ! 6 Jesus, to thy dear faithful hand My naked soul I trust ; And my flesh waits for thy command, To drop into my dust. HYMN XXIX. [C. M.] Redemption by price and raver. 1 JESUS, with all thy saints above, Mytongue would bear her part, Would sound aloud thy saving love, And singthy bleeding heart. 2 Bless'd be the Lamb, my dearest Lord, Who bought me with his blood, And, gnench'd his Father's flaming sword In his own vital flood. 3 The Lamb that freedmy captive soul From Satan's heavy chains, And sent the lion down to howl Where hell and horror reigns. 4 All glory to the dying Lamb, And never-ceasing praise, While angels live to know his name, Or saints to feel his grace. HYMNXXX. [S. M.] Heavenly joy os, earth. 1 COME we that love the Lord, And let our joys be known; Join in a song with sweet accord, And thus surround the throne. 2 The sorrows of the mind Be banish'd from the, place ! Religion never was desagn'd To make our pleasures less. 3 Let those refuse to sing That never knew ,our God, 167 But fav'rites of the beav'nly King May speak their joys abroad. 4 [The God that rules on high, And thunders when he please That rides upon the stormy sky, And manages the seas.] 5' This awful God is ours, Our Father and our love, H e shall send down hisheav'nly p To carry us above. 6 There shall we see his face, And never, never sin ; There, from the rivers of his grace, Drink endless pleasures in. 7 Yes, and before we rise To that immortal state, The thoughts of such amazing bliss Should constant joys create. 8 [The men of grace have found Glory begun below, Celestial fruits on earthly ground From faith and hope may grow. 9 The hill of Zion yields A thousand sacred sweets, Before we reach the heav'nly fields, Or walk the golden streets. 10 Then let our songs abound, And ev'ry tear be dry ; We're marching thro' Immanuel's ground To fairer worlds on high.] HYMN XXXI. [L. M.] Christ'¢ presence snakes death easy. 1 WHY should we start and fear to die ? What tim'rons worms we mortals are ? Death is the gate of endless joy, And yet we dread to enter there. 2 The pains, the groans, and dying strife Fright our approaching souls away.; Still we shrink back again to life, Fond of our prison and our clay. 3 Oh! if my Lord wouldcome and meet, My soul should stretch her wings in haste, Fly fearless thro' death's iron gate, Nor feel the terrors as she past. 4 Jesus can make a dying bed Feel soft as downy pillars are, While on his breast I lean my head, And breathe my lifeout sweetly there. rs HYMN XXXII. [C. M.] Frailty and folly. 1 110W short and hasty is our life! How vast our souls affairs! Yet senseless mortals vainly strive To lavish out their years. 2 Our days run thoughtlessly along, Without a moment's stay ; Just like a story, or a song, We pass our lives away. 3 God from on high invites as home, Bnt we march heedless on,
