For there is no difference, for all have finned, and are deprived of the glory of God, and are freely juffified by his grace through the redemption which is in Chrif,l Je- fue. TIMoruaus. (r't 7 Plat bee the pant of this-Text V V wherein this former Dot-trine is more fully opened and illuflrated ? S a L. Two,Firlt,a genera ll neceffity of juflification. Secondly, two caufes thereof; the eflicient, and the matter. T r 24. What is the meaning of Chit 2 3. verfee ? S I L. That all through fin are de- prived of the righteoufneffe wherein God is moll glorified. Or thus(as Come expound it:) All the ele& by reafon of their finfull nature and life, are void and deflitute ofeternall life, which con - fifteth in the participation of Gods glo- ry; and therefore are deprived of righ- teoufneffe,to which belongeth the pro - miCe ofglory. T I m. How proveyee that all men have finned? S I L.Firft,by the authority of Scrip- ture, r John 1,6, 8, and Iaw. 4. 2. Se- condly,by common experience, becaufe it bath been feen in all ages, that the beff men have finned,as Noah,Lot,,Qbraham, David. Thirdly, by the tefiimony of confcience, which doth witnelfe unto every man that hee is a (inner, and Both bring dread , and feare of judge- ment for finne. Laftly, the judgements of God which are fo common in the world doe tell us, that no mm is with- out fin, wbich fticketh clofe to mans na- ture, cven in the godly, till the diffoluti- on of nature. T I at. How many wayet doe men fin? S z L. T I M. What safe make you ofthis point? S I L. It reproveth the Papifls, which afcribe freedome from fin, to the Virgin Mary : and alto other Hereticks, which hold an abfolure freedome from finne, in the regenerate, even in this life. Secondly, it teacheth us to thinke of other mens finne, with compafìion, confidering our own. Thirdly,it ferveth to humble all men , and to drive them out of themfelves to Chrilf, to feeke righteoufneffe in him; and to be full of awe and watch, feting there be fo many wayes to milk the marke, and but one to hit ir. T r ar. What is meant by the glory of God? S I L. Some thinke it is the perfe& righteoufneffe of Chrift, the imputing whereof to the beleevers , is much to the glory and praife of his free grace and good will. But I thin k,it is here put for eternall life, which flandeth in the fellowlhip of Gods glory; and that this is themeaning, may appear by the word (deflitute or dept ived) which fignifieth one that fainteth in a race, and falleth thou of the goal ; now eternall life, is the goal of our race, the price of the high calling of God. Phil. 3. T I M. What ufe of this point? S I L. That through fin we are moli miferable, as having thereby loft the c`.aiefefl thing, which is Gods glory, in the fruition whereof, is all cur happi- netle, which lhould nrake us love Chritl, by whom it is reftored.
