Hat is the drift of this Text S z L. To let down more clearly by what means God brings both ele& and not ele& to their appointed ends of eternal life or death. Hereunto the A- poffle is come by thefe degrees. Firít, he had faid, that the prontife of God' depends upon his ele &ion. Secondly, he had fhewed the moving caufe of ele- &ion and reprobatión, his own abfo- lute will, and molt free mercy. Third- ly, he had declared the ends of Gods predeftination, the glory of his mercy, in laving of the one, and of his power and jnftice, in deftroying the other. Fourthly, he had declared that the Means to judge ofour elettion is by our effettual calling. Laftly, that men may difcern when their calling is effettual or not (by faith or unbelief) which are thofe two means whereby that high counfel of God is executed, as in this Text is plainly to be feen in the exam- ples ofthe faithful Gentiles faved, and unfaithful Jewes confounded.
