Whatfoever is neceffary,is manifefl(faith I Aufline.) Againe, If I read it not in the j Canonical! Scripture, I will not beleeve it. T r M. From what Chapters cf Efay, are thefe two authorities oirawn and fet- ched? and how are they fitted unto Paul bis purpofe S r L. Here be two Oracles of Efay the Prophet contra&ted into one, as was done before in verfe 8. The for- mer Text or fentence, taken out of the Prophet Efay, Chap, 59. ver, 20. Yet here is a little alteration in the words, for in Efay it is, [The deliverer ¡hail come to Si- on: ] in Paul (following the tranflation of the Septuagint) it is, [ Shall come out of Sion.] This difference may thus be re- conciled, either ec is by the Notaries and Copies fault, crept into the Text for heneca , as the Septuagint rendred it, [For Sions fake :] or if we reade [out of Sion,] then it hath relation unto the progrt íl`e of the Gofpell : as if Paul (do- ing the office of an Interpreter) (hould fay, that out of Sion (that is, the Church of God, fignified by Sion, where the Tribes affemble to wor(hip) fhould come the Gofpell, which (hould con- vert the Jewes to Chrifi : whereas Efay refpe &ing the very time and inflant of the firfi coming of the Meflias, faid [Un- to Sion.] There is another alteration in the words, though no change in the fenfe ; for whereas Flay faith [ unto them which turne from iniquity] which implyeth re- pentance, Paul riling higher, nameth the very caufe of their repentance, name- ly, remillion of thanes by faith in Chrifi. For none can turne away from finne by repentance, except God turn fin from them by free remillion ; Or ellè, with Mader Junius ice may fay, that for his coming (whereof Ejay makes mention) Paul fetteth down a benefictall confe- quent of his coming, whichis remillion of hones. The fecond authority is fetch ed, the one part of it, [ This (pall be my cove- nant] out of Efay 59. 21. and the other part out of Efay 27. 9. This is all the truite, the taking away of finne Some thinke it an allufion to the words of the covenant, Ter. 31. 43. The Apo- file applieth this place to his purpofe after this fort. Seeing God meaneth by free covenant to be reconciled to the Jews, (forgiving them their firmes) and hatli foretold it by his Prophet, there- fore there is no doubt of it,but it thould be : inwhich regard, the Gentiles have no caufe proudly to defpife and infult over the Jewes, but in fear and humili- ty to preferve themfelves in the (late of grace. If we will hear the application of thefe Scriptures more at large, thus it is: WhatGod hath promifed by cove- nant, the fame muff be fulfilled, becaufe God is faithfull, and cannot lye or deny himfelf, s Tim. r. 2. Shall he promife, and not do? But by promife he cove- nanted to give a deliverance, not tem- porali from Babylonifb captivity, but fpi- rituall unto remillion of finites , and eternal' life : which covenant, he bath made not with Gentiles ontly, but with. Jews ; not with oneor with a few, but with thewhole people fignifiedby [7a- cob] oppofed againft [ In part ] verte 25. This Covenant of fending Chriff, who is the deliverer here fpoken of, to con- vert the whole Nation of the Jewes, and fave them by forgivenelfeof finne, is not yet accomplifhed. Therefore in time to come, even before the conclufi- on of the world, it snuff be fulfilled:for one tittle or jot of Godsword, may not fall to the ground. This is like the pro - phefies of Math. t. 21. Mich. 4. 7. Luke t. 33. which are not yet done, therefore muff be. For the Jewes being the
