Paulus Samofatenus fat in thechair eight years ; when, for his unepifcopal manners and praaices, his unfound dog- mata and principles, and efpecially his mean and unworthy opinions concerning our Saviour, he was condemned and de- pofed by a fynod at Antioch, whofe yno- dical determination is at large extant in Eufebius's hiflory. XVII. Domnus fucceeded in the place of the depofed. He was fon to Demetrian, Paulus's predeceffor in that fee ; conflituted and ordained to the place by the fathers of that fynod, who further give him this honourable character, that he was a man enduedwith all epifcopal virtues and orna- ments. Eufebius makes him to have held the fee fix, Nicephorus but two years. XVIII. Timæus : he fat in the chair ten years. XIX. Cyrillus, who prefided over that church, in the account of Nicephorus, fifteen ; according to Eufebius twenty-four years. XX. Tyrannus : he fat thirteen years: In his time began the tenth perfecution under Dioclefian, which raged with great feverity againfl the Chriflians. XXI. Vitalis, fix. XXII. Philogonius, five ; he was fuc- ceeded by XXIII. Paulinus, or, as Nicephorus calls him, Paulus ; who, after five years, was depofed and driven out by the Arian fac- tion, which then prevailed. XXIV. Euflathius, formerly bifhop of Berma, was a learned man, and of great note and eminency in the council ofNice; which was the fief general council, fum- moned by Conflantine the Great, after he had reflored peace and profperity to the church in general.
