"Their fin is intimated in Scripture; Ordain not a r o- vice, left being lifted up with pride, hefall into the con- demnation of the Devil: that is, left he becomeguilty n Tin"' 6' of that fin which brought a fevere fentence on theDe- vil. ThePrince ofdarknefs was blinded with the lufrre of his own excellencies, and attempted upon the Regalia of Heaven, affecr.ing an independent frate. He difa- vowed his Benefactor, inricht with his benefits. And in the lame moment he with his companions in rebelli- a Per. 2.4. on, were banifhed from Heaven. God Bared not the Angels that finned, but call them down to Hell, and de- livered them into Chains ofDarknefs to be referv'd un- to judgment. Mercy did not interpole to avert orfur- pend their Judgment, but immediately they wereex- pell'd from the Divine Pretence. A folemn triumph in Heaven followed : a voice came out of the Throne lay- ing, Praife our Godall ye his Servants : and there was as it were the voice ofmighty thundrings, Paying, Hal- lelujah, for the Lord God Omnipotent reigns. They are now themofr eminent examples ofrevenging wrath. Their prefent mifery is infupportable, and they expe worfe. When our Saviour cafr Tome of them out of Mark c. the poffeft perlons, they cryed out, Art thou come to torment us before our time ? Miferrimumof timere cum fjieres nihil; 'tis the height of mifery to have nothing to hope, and fomething to fear. Their guilt is attend- ed with defpair 5 they ale in everlafling Chains. He that carries the Keys of Hell and 'Death will never o- pen their Prifon. If the fentence did admit a Revoca- tion after a million of years, their torment would be nothing in comparifon of what it is: for the longeft meafure of time bears no proportion to Eternity; and hope would allay the=feule ofthe prefent füfferings with the profpeI of future eafe. But their Judgment is ir- revertible;- they are under the blacknef ofdarknef for ever.
