98 Box of precious Ointment : Or, Kings Highway. So the bufinefs, the work of an upright man is to depart from evil ; 'cis poflible for an upright man to fiep into a finful path, or to touch upon finful faecs ; but his main way,, his principal work and bufinefs, is to depart from iniquity : As a Bee may light upon a Thifile,-but her work is to be gathering at Flowers; or as a Sheep may flip into the dirt, but its work is to be grating on the Mountains, or in the Meadows. Certainly there is no man in the world fo abominable wicked. but that he may now and then (when he is in a good mood, or when he is under- difIre fs of Con- fcience, or bleeding under a fmarting rod, or beholding the hand- writing upon the Wall, or under a fentence of death) depart from evil ; but this is not his courfe, this is not his bufinefs, this is not his work, this is not his highway.Thieves do but now and then fiep into the Kings Highway to take a purfe, they do not keep the Kings Highway. But now the upright mans Highway, his common and ordinary courfe, is .to depart from evil, and therefore he cannot allow himfelf liberty to walk in an evil way. z. t a, / 2. For the Grace' of God that lringeth Salvation, bath appeared to all men, (without diflinolion of Nations, Sex, Age, or condition) teaching so, that denyingpingodlynefs and worldly 14 s, we Amid live fieberly, righteoufly, and godly in this prefent World. Under the name of ungodlinefs, he comprifeth all the breaches of the firft Ta- ble ; and under the name of worldly lufts, he comprifeth all inordinate de .fires againfi the fecond Table ; and thole three words, foberly, righteoufly, and godly,, have a threefold re- ference ' the firft to our felves, the fecond to our neighbour, and the third to God. We muff live foberly in reipeol of our felves, righteoufly in refpe6 of our neighbours, and god- ly in refpea ofGod. And this is the fuin of a Chrillians whole duty. Now if the Grace of God which bringeth Sal - vation, teaches Saints to deny ungodlinefs and worldly Lifts, then certainly Saints that are taught by that. Grace, cannot live, nor allow themfelves in ungodlinefs or worldly lulls ; without all peradventure Heaven is for that man, and that man is for Heaven that can appeal to Heaven, that he allows not himfelf in the pra &ice of any known fin..
