Could the killing of a Beall take away fin ?. \'Vhy.then dotli Job, when, he feared' that his Eons had finned, go prefènt13and offer Sacrifice ? For anfwer. It is true, that the Sacrifices in themfelves were nothing,- either to God or man ; they could do no good , they had nopower in them, either to pacifie God, or topurge thefouls ofmen. But lo®k upon the Sacrifice as it was an Inititution, and then God law his Son .Jefus Chrill in it, and was well pleafed : and likewife man beheld and believed Chrift in it, and was pur- ged. When the Sacrifice was offering, man fawChrift fuffering, this took away his fin, and pacified his confcience. A Sacrifice in it felf, as it was the killing or burning ofa Beaft, had no vertue in it, but asit had refpea untoChrift, fo God faw thedeath ofhis Son, and that fatisfied him, and man faw the death of his Savi- our, and that jufüfied him. But while the Incenfe was burning, while the Sacrifice was offering, thepeople were praying and believing. There adings offaith, and pourings Out ofprayer made the Sacrifice, as effeEtual for man, fo acceptable to God. Then in that he offered burnt -offerings, which burnt -offerings were made when he feared that his Sons had finned' : thefeoffer- ings typing out, and leading them to Chrift änd his death. We may note this, That Chrift was ever the only remedy and cure offin. As loon as ever there was any fear of fin , prefentlÿ they had recourfe toa Sacrifice ; and what was that ? they went to Chrift.
