There God fpake of fob with refpeCt to his holinefs and righteoufnefs, as hereof Leviathan, with refpe61 to his greatnefs and fearlefs- nefs;Vpon theearth there is not his like.Now as it is of the Devil, that any are beyond all others inwickednefs ; fo it is of the Lord, that any exceed others in goodnefs, in holinefs, in patience, in righteoufnefs, in faith, in faithfulnefs, in fruitfulnefs; this is by fpecial dilpenfation from the Lord. It isairo of the Lord, that any among the irrational creatures exceed their fellows, iswas further (hewed concerning Behemoth, from thole wordsin the fortieth Chapter, Ile it thechiefofthe ways of God; andas here it is raid of Leviathan, There is :eons likehim, who is made without fear. Hence note, Secondly ; It is of God that one creature is left fearful thananother, As the outward compolure of the creature is of God, foalto is the inward difpoí tion. Some creatures are (asI may fay) no- thing but fear fuch is the Hare ; whence we fpaak proverbially, as fearful as ;Hare. The Hart is a goodly creature, yet a little dog will make ahundred of them run. But there areother crea- tures, that may be faid to have no fear at all ; Solomongives that character of a Lion (Aron. 30. 3o.)There are three things which go well, yea four, that are comely in going, a Lionwhich is firong. cfi among hafts , and turneth not away from any , that is, fears not any. And as among irrational creatures, one is more fearlefs than another, fo it is amongmen;one isof a fearful fpirit, and another of a couragious fpirit. This alto is of God, yet there are fpecial andparticular reafons ,why Tome men are (tidier of fear thanothers. Again, when the Lord would exprefs the perfc ion of this creature, he faith, He it made without fear. Hence
