Verf. 34 779. the Lord fpake thus, becaufe beaffs on the land are ffronger chan fifh in the fea ; and they give a reafon for it, upon a Philofophi- cal ground, becaufe much moiffure weakens. Therefore the wonderful, even, preternatural ffreagth of Leviathan appears in this; that he being a water animal, fhould yet be both bigger and ffronger than any bell of the earth. Vpon the earth there is not bid like, who is made without fiar. Which, as it is here aferr- ed,To it is demonarated in the following words. Verf. 34. He beholdetb all high things : he is Ding ever al, the children of pride. There isa three-fold interpretation of thole words, in the for- mer part of this verfe , He beboldethall high things:Underffand ingby the Relative [He] Leviathan (for there is another reading which I mall touch in the clofe.) Firff, Thefe words maybe expounded, as an argument of the mighty courage of Leviathan. He (as it was faid before) is made without fear, for he beboldeth all high things ; that is, let things or perfons be never fohigh, never fo great, neverfo formidable, he beholdeth them boldly; he doth not wink and look, but with open face beholds the molt high and terrible thins for (as it is drone jnbvolu laid before) he is made without fear. g ' vodreßveto. He is (as one gives his charadter) pride throughout, or nothing elfe but apiece of pride, extrcamly proud.
