Let us a little confider the firli objet of it here expreffed, the omnipotence of God, I know That dog cans do every thing. Hence obferve, Firfi ; God ie good at any work. That is,at any work that is good ; he can doevery fuch thing, nothing comes amifs to him. Among men, one man can do this thing, and anothercan do that thing, and a third can do more than either ; but where will you find a man that cando every thing ? Oneman is for counfel, another for a&ion ; one man can build a houle, and another can till theground ; feverlimen have their feveral arts and myfieries, and it is well if one Man cando any one thing well: But God is for all. We have aPaying (and 'tis a great truth) He that will be doing of every thing, is nogreat tlliquír in on- doer in any thing ; that is,he never excels in any. But as the Lord ! ultrn, fusin can do every thing, fohe is exact and perfe& in every thing that r g . he doth. The belt creature is onlya particular good, but God isanuniverfal good; there is every good inGod: all the good that is fcattered in the creature, is eminently in him. Now as God is an univerfal good, fohe is an univerfal Agent ; he is in working, as he is in Being; Hecandoevery thing forme, as well as be every thing to us. We need not fear if we bring this or that thing to God, that hebath no skill in it , as it is with men ; if youbring this thing to a man, he isexcellent at it; but bring another thing, and he knoweth not how to turnhis hand to it : but whatfoever we have to do, if it be according to the will of God, he hash power and wifdom enough todo it. The Lord had power enough to give abeing to all creatures; and bathhe not power enough to do all things in and about the creature ? cannot hepreferve to all dangers, and provide in all wants?cannot he furnifh with all gifts, and give fticcefs ? cannot he overthrow the high, and exalt the low ? cannot he retrain the wrathful, and fubdue the obliinace ?
