Satan

thofe
that
are

vpon
the earthly

mon;
which
I
haue
the

vpon,
becaufe
it
is
a
temptation

dangerous
;
neither
doth
Satan
by
anie
meanes more
eauily
facke
our
foules, and fpoile
vs
of
Gods
graces,than when
hee
afcendeth by
there
golden ladders, or
tnaketh
a
breach
in our
hearts
with
thefe rich
bullets.
If
Satan
fee
men
proud and
vaine-
glorious,
then
hee
inti-
ceth them to
fin,
by
offering
them
Gorgeous
attire
farce
vn-.
`fitting
their
fiate and
callings, and

mit
a
great abfurditie
:
for whereas our
Sauiour
Chrift faith,
that
the
bodie
is
of
more
worth then
raiment, they
make
their
raiment
ofmore worth
than their
bodies,in other
mens
judgement,
and
preferre
gay
apparrell
before the health
of
their
foules, in
their
owne
efüination;
for
that they
may
jet

out
in
rich
attire,
they

by
keeping
the
poore from their
right:
(for
their

ofwealth
was
not
giuen
them to
fpend in

but that
they
fhould
like the Lords Alinners

furpluflage)and by
both,they
wound their
foules
with
finne,
and
without
repentance plunge them into
euerlafling
death.
So
alfo
Satan.taketh
aduantage
of
our complexion
and
temperature; by
tempting
the Sanguine
to
pleafure
and
lull;
the
Flegmaticke to
idlenes and floth
;
the
Melancholicke
to
enuie ánd malice;the
Cholericke
man he
prouoketh
to
quar-
rels
and
branles,
and inticeth him to
take reuenge by

uating
the iniurie,
and
fuggefling that
it will be
great
difpa-
ragement
to put
vp
fuch a
wrong.
In
a
word,Satan carefully
obferueth
to
what
finne we are
niofl prone
by
naturc,cuflom
or occafion;and to
that
he
eggcth
vs
forward vnto
which our
owne
lufls
leade
vs,
changing
his
temptations
as
we
change
our affeelion.And therefore the Apoflle
lames
telleth vs,that
whofoeuer
is
tempted,
is
drawne away
by
his
oWne
concu-
pifcence,
becaufe Satan neuer affaulteth
vs,
but
hee
is
fure
that
the
fiefh
will further him in
his
temptations.
And
