A 4th fort is a fcrupi'ing Confcience, which differeth from the former in this, that it is clear in the main of duty, but fcrupleth and is unclear in force accidental thing, that goeth along with it : As for inffance, when one would pray, and apprehendeth, That in praying he will take God's name in vain, becaufe it may be forne blaf- phernous thought is inje &ed into his mind ; or, when a man is about tome neceflary duty of his lawful calling, and bath fòmething like an impulfe of Confcience to pray, which haunreth, and forne way vexeth him ; this is a fcruple, but upon a light ground, and bath little or tto reafon for it, yet it is born in with violence ; and therefore, in this cafe, a man is obliged rather to go over the fcruple, and follow his duty : For, alr_ho' be Mould endeavour to fatisfy his Confcience by reafón, in this cafe, as in the former ; yet, when the duty is clear, he fhould trample upon what would hinder him, and go on with the duty, and in fo doing, he trampleth not upon his Confcience, but upon that which cometh in to mar him in his duty, and followeth, or (to fpeak fo) dog. geth his Confcience.
