Godmakes a Convert of nothing; he had nothing to helpe him, not one thought, not one delire, not one good in- clination; and therefore the Scripture calls it a new crea ti in ; whofoever is in Chri, I is a new creature, 2 Cor. 5.17. that is, is created a new. And therefore , there was no- thing preexittent,n© not one thought,all the thoughts of men are onely evil!,and that continually. So there is the fame dif- fictilty, that was in the Creation of Heaven and Earth ; and then Secondly, there is another difficulty more then there was in the Creation ; for as there was nothing preexi- lient to helpe , fo there was nothing to refill. But here is fomething to refill , the will it refined; ; now the Cannata does not refill. No, the bellowing of the newpowers is no more then another Creation. But the changing of the will is more then another Creation ; for the will it refi fetb, yea and it fees all the foule a refining. Carnali reafon refilleth, carnal! de- fires they reift, all the foule it refifteth ; and thegreatef refinance of all is the refinance of the will; for the will is the utmoft firength of the foule. And therefore here lies the infinite difficulty of the converfion of a finner,name- ly in the turning of the will, it requireth more power, then was required to the creation of Heaven and Earth. God put himfelfe forth more when he converteth a fin - nee, then when he created a World ; and therefore the Scripture calles the day of convcrfeon of mens wills, the day of his power. Thy people {ball be willing in the day of thy power. Pfal. s a 0.3. In the day of thy power ; marke , its called a day ofGods power,when he converteth a people to be willing. Why ? becaufe the will did refill him; nay God bad his own feife to refill. him, anger Reps in his way to refifthim. Convert him not Lord, his wilfulneffe hath anger'd thee ; Iuffiee fiept in to refill him, fave him not Lord, his finnes have difhonoured thee. Nay, he had his mercy to refill him ; merry feps in, Lord he hath abufed me, fave him not. Indeed had a finner yielded as foone as he finned, mercy would not refill him ; but mercy had beene
