If the children of God have it not al- wayes, then they feel the want of it ; and in the want of that comfort nothing elfe will comfort them. It is not all the peace and profperity of the world that can comfort their hearts as long as they have not this peace ; not all the mirth in the world can content them until! they enjoy this peace again, the peace and quiet of a good confcience;they faint for ir,and long after it, Pro.-19.11, they can have no flrength without it;TheLord Will give fdrength unto his people;the Lord will ble f fe his people with peace. It is not fo with corrupt hearts; they can be without peace, and yet never faint;they can eat and drink for all that, & fleep & be merry for all that yea & go about their profits and their earthly bulneffes as roundly as ever for all that; But the children of God if they want the peace of confcience, they have no ftrength to do any thing almofl,they faint til they have it again.4The godly always have the feeds of it in them ; Light is foyer; for the righteous, and gladneffe for the upright in heart. Mark ; it is fown in their 5 pfa. 7.11 hearts, and it will fpring up at one time or other to cheat them and to comfort them. As it is with the wicked ; they may feem now and chentohave true peace, but they have the feeds of horrour alwayes in thens,which will (prone forth at la[l, and then they (hall find the worm of an evil confcience again ; fo on the contrary fide, the godly may Teem now and then to have no peace, but yet they have alwayes the feeds of true peace in them, which will in time (hew themfelves, and folace their fouls forever. 5. They never want peace as'the wicked do want it. The wicked want it, and have no po(lïbility of having it ; they go in fuch paths as wherein they fhal! never !.now peace, fuch ICai. Sg. s. paths as will never lead them unto it ; Hill their confcience is able to fay, they are not right, they are'carnall and not fpiriru all ; they know no true peace of confcience, neither can they; But the children of God walk in fuck wayes as will bring them to true peace of confcience ere they have done.
