Whofo therefore (hall fwear by the altar, fweareth by it, and by all things thereon. ar. And whofo fhall fwear by the temple, fweareth by it, and by him that dwejleth therein. 22. And he that fhall fwear by heaven, fweareth by the throne of God, and by him that fitteth - thereon. 20, &c. The Altar is to be taken as relating to the Offering, and the Temple and Heaven -relating to God, in the tenfe of the Oath. 23. Wo unto you fcribes andPha- rifees, hypocrites : for ye pay tithe of mint, and anife, and cummin, and have omitted the weightier mat- ters of the law, judgment, mercy, and faith : thefe ought ye to have done, and not leave the other un- done. 23. What hypocrifie is it to be precife in Ty- thing and trifling (mall things, and withal to negleit the great duties of the Law, juft judg- ing, mercy, and faithf 1 dealing! theft are the things which you thould have firft done, with greatett zeal and care, and the fmallthings to come in their proper place. 24. As Hypocrites ye honour by your Ceremonies and Words the momory of the Pro- phets and righteous men, whom your Fathers murdered ; and you fay } nu would not have done it; and yet you do the lame and worth.
