The
end,
The
benefit
hath
reference
to the
7. verfe,
In
whom
we
have
redemption,
in
whom
alfo
we have
obtained
an
inheritence
;
The
old
books
reade it,
Wee
are
chofen,
the latter,
we
have
obtainedan
inheritance
:
The
word
frgnifyeth, we
have beene
chofen,
as it
were by
lor,to
an
inheritance.
The
ground fheweth
us, firft
ourpredeftination: Secondly, the author
of
it,by
him
who
is
defcribed from the
of
th;
in
which we are to mark,

Anion, who doth

The Manner,accordingto the
counfell
of
his
will:
the
end
of
this
and
all
the
other
benefits following.
The
words being
carte, we
will come
to theinftrutìions.
Dolt,
a
Firft,
we
fee
that
being
in
Chrift,
we
finde
not onely
righteoufneffe
in
him,but
life everlafting
:
God doth not
fet
us
free
from
finin
Chrift,
that
by our
felves
we might,
by
workes meritorious, worke out
falva-
tion
;
but
even
as
finne
caufeth
death,fo
his
grace
through Chrift
raign-
eth
to
life
eternal!.
Now
the order
in
which we
receive this
inheri-
tance,you may fee,
Ac?rz6.r8.Rom.8.God
enlightens their eyes,brings
them
to
know and beleeve on
Chrift, that
fo
they
may receive
in
him,
Firft,
remiffion
offinnes
;
Secondly, Inheritance
with
the
Saints
:
thofe
whom
he
bath called,hehath juftified;fo thofe
whom
he
bath
juftified,
he
hath giorified.Sin

fin
being
re-
moved from us,who are with
the
natural!
fonne,what
fhould hinder but
that wefhould
be heires, even joynt- heires
with
him
?
Being one
with
him, we are
the
feeds
to whom
was
promifed under Canaan the
inheri-
tance
of
theworld to
come.
The
betterto
underftand this
matter
of
our
inheritance, you
muff
know
what
it
is
in
general!.
a. In what order
we
come
to
receive it.
That
is
an
inheritance which I hold
as
the
Sonne,
or
Allie
;
or
as
out
of
favour I am written the hcire
of
this
or that
man
; fo
what ever weobtaine
by
our principali birth from
Chrift, that
is
our
in-
heritance.
That
which
we
obtaine
is
two
fold
:
Firft,
in this life
we
re-
ceive
the
fill
fruits, the earneft
of
the
Spirit, and
all
our bleffings
are
given
to
us as
part
of
a
childs part.
Wards,
whilethey
are
in
their
minori-
ty,have
fome allowance
from their inheritance
;
and Parents will prove
their children with
fome leffer flockes,
to
fee
how they
will husband
them, before they
give them
the
full eftate
they
meane
to
leave
them;
fo
doth
God.
Secondly, we
receive
the
fulneffe
in
the
life
to
come,
which
flandeth
partly
in
Prerogatives.
Secondly,
in
the glory that
fhall
be
put
upon our
perfons.
Thirdly,in the
things which
!hall
be given
us
to
poffeffe.
Some
inheritances have prerogatives
annexed,
as
to
bé
Lord
high Steward,
Lord high Chamberlaine: fo
our
inheritance bath this
royalty
annexed;
We
(hall be Kings
and Priefts
to God
;
we
fhall
be Judges
of
the
world,
and Angels
with
Chrift,ftanding by Chrift,
as
Benchers and
Affiftants
in
place
of
judgement.
Our glory
refpeéleth foule
or body
;
the
foule
fhall
be
filled
with the light
of
knowledge,
even
as
the ayre upon the
lemming of
the
Sun
to
it,is rather light to appearance,
then
enlightned.
