Againe
,
what
a
power
is
it,
that
inwardly confirmeth and
ftrengthe-
neth
us,
that
we are
not not overcome
; yea,
that doth chaise
up thefe
fpirits
ofdarknefl'c, that they
are
not
able
difturbantly to
affayle
us
thefe things
are daily
done
in us.
Now
this power
is
ready
to
worke
in times
to come,
our deliverance from all evils,
the
further
fupply
of
graces which
we yet
finde
our
felves
to want, the
further
healing of
finfull natures,
the
full
redemption
of
our foulesand bodies.
The
Vfe
is, firít
to
iliac
us up
to
thankfulneffe,
who
have found
the
power
of
God
working thus for
us,
yea,
that
it
is
with us,
to worke
further for
us,
what
ever
belongeth to our falvation.
They
who
did
finde
Chrifts miracles, power, caning out
devils in
them,
healing
Le-
profies,
they
were bound
to
praife him
;
but
we
are
epitomies
of
all
his
miraculous cures,
in
healing us, he
Both fhew
them
all
;
Dumbe
fpirits,
deafe
fpirits, crooked fpirits,
who
doe
fo
hold the joynts
of
our
hearts
downewards, that they
cannot looke
up
;
Leprofies, Lunacies,
&c.
That
is
done
in
us,
which anfwereth them
all
:
but that
his
power
fhould
be
Rill
toward
us,
to
worke further things
in
our
behalfe,
this
is
matter
of
much rejoycing. Feare
not thou
whofe heart beleeveth
; in
fire
and
water he
is
with thee,
to
deliver
thee:
if
thou doeft
fee
no footfleps
or
prints
of
fome graces
in
thy
felfe,
which thou much
defireft
;
that
power
is
with thee which
calleth
and maketh
the things which
are
not,
Rand
forth
as
if
they
were
:
If
thou
haft finfull inclinations
of
never
fuch
ftrength
and
continuance,
that power
is
with
thee which
can
dry
up
thefe
iffues, and
heale infirmities
of longeft
continuance.
Secondly,let
us
labor
as
we
wil have this
power
work more and
more
in
us,fo to
grow
up
in
beliefe:Chrift
could not
flew
his
apparent
miracu-
lous power
,
where
unbeliefe hindred ; fo he will
not
dilplay
this
power
in
thofe, who labour not by faith to
give him
glory.
It
is
one
thing to know
this
power, another thing to
have this
power
work-
ing
in us
:
The
meanes
of
the former were above briefly
touched;
It
(hall
not be
amiffe
to mentionfome alto concerning this latter.
The
firft is,
I fay,
growing
up
in
faith
:
The
fecond,
is a
confcience
of
our
owne
inabilitie. Saint Paul was full
of
this
:
we
are
not
able
to
thinke
a
thought, when we
were
of
no ftrength
:
As one
muff
have
con
-
fcience
of
his
folly, beforehe
can
be made
wife;
fo before we can
have
thepower
of
God
worke
in
us, and
flrengthen
us,
we
muff
be
confcious
ofour
owne utter
inability
to
every
good word
and
worke. Thirdly,
we
mutt fubmit our
felves
to
all
kinde
of
weake.effares and conditions,
into which
God
(hall
leade
us;
for
God doth commonly
manifeft
his
power
in
infirmities,
as
Paul fpeaketh,
2
Cor.1
z.
Laftly,
we
muff glo-
rifre
this
power,
in
that
it
doth, or
bath wrought for
us;
this
is
Pants
praife
every where
:
I
can
doe
every
thing, Chriflflrengthning
me ;
I
flrive,
throughthe
power
that
market
in
me
mightily

Obferve laftly, that
it
is
the
effeétuall
working
of
Gods
almighty
power, which bringeth
us
to
beleeve.
The
Gofpell
is
called
the
power
of
God, that
is, an
inflrument
of
Gods almighty power, which
work
-
eth faith
in us
to
falvation
:
