-So

it

fhould bee

here,

whatever

wee

lofe,

wee are

to

bee

comforted in this,

that

our fouls

are

not

gone and

loft:

It

is

a

notable

Scripture,

in

t

Pet.

wherefore

let

á

hem

that

Pifer

according

to

the

will

ofGod, commit

the

keep

arg

oftheir

fouls

to

him

in

well

doing,

at

unto

a

faithful

Crea-

tor.

As

if the

Apoftle

íhould

fay

,

you

are like

to

meet

with great

fufferings, you

may likely bee

deprived

of

all

you have, of

your

elates,

and

of

all

your

comforts, and

may

come

to

fuller

much,

yet

commit

the

keeping

of

your

fouls

to

him in

well doing,

as

unto

a

faithful

Creator

:

Why,

they

might have

Paid,

but what fhali become of o-

ther

things

?

if

(forms,

and tempefts,

and

fufferings

come,

what (hall

become

of

our

eftates?

what (hall

become

of

our

livelihoods, and

of

our bodies

?

why faith

the

Apoftle

,

as

for them,

for

your

eftates, for

your

bodies, it may

bee

they

may perifh; you are

not

fo much

to

look

after them, but

commit

the

keeping

of

your fouls

unto

him,

as

unto

a

faithful

Creator.

The

Apoftle

here exhorts

them

what to do

in times of

fufferings,

and

by

what

hee

doth

exprefs, bee

doth imply,

that

they Mould take no

care for outward

e-

flare, and body; it

is enough

that

your fouls are

well,

corn

mit

the keeping

of

your fouls

to

him,

as

unto

a

faithful

Creator,

wee

have enough

if

that

:

You

know

in

time

of

danger,

as

fires, and other times,

if

a

man hath

any precious

thing, bee carries

that prefently to

fome

fpeci-

al

friend, and

commits

the

keeping

of

that.

to

him; his

writings and

fuch

things

,

wherein

his

elate

is

molt

:

So

faith the

Apoftle,

in

the time of

publick

danger, Take

care

to

commit

the

keeping

of

your fouls

to

him,

as

unto

a

faithful Creator, and

you

are well enough.

That

is

the

firft.

Secondly,

If

the lofs

of the

foul

bee

fo

dreadful

a

lofs,

Oh

let

us biefs

God

then

for

Jefus

Chrift,

without

whom

all

our

fouls had

been eternally

loft, never

foul

in

the

world

but mutt

unto all

eternity,

had

not

Jefus

into

the world

to
