Comfort

to

the

godly

poore.

What

Comfort

there

is

in

the

Confideration

of the eflate

of

the

Mei1ìahs

Corning into

the world ,

what Incouragement

there

is

in

This

to thole that

are

poore

in

fpirit,

and how

they

in particular come to be made

happy,

that's the

fco:,e

of this

Sermon,and the fcope

of Chrift

.

Now

then

for

the open-

ing of

this,

I'

(hall call

it

into thefe three

heads.

Firfl,

What

Comfort

thole

that

are outwardly poore,

poore people that

have fpirits iutable

to

their

outward Con

-

ditions, that are Godly

poore, whofe fpirits are willing to fub-

mit

to

God

in

that

poore Condition that they

are in,

(

what

Inçouragement they

can have

from

the

flare

of the

Mellias,

from this kingdome

of

Heaven

:

)

And

.I

rather

thinke

that

Chrifl Intended

this

,becaufe

I

find

in

the 6

LPike

that Chrift

doth

oppofe

the rich

in this

world

to

poore

in

fririt,

There-

fore Chrift

Intended

certainly

in

this Scripture

to

fpeak

Com-

fortable words to Godly

poore people.

And then fecondly

,

To

thofe

that

are

poore

in

parts, poore

men and

women

that

have meane gifts and

abili;

ies,

and

yet

are

Godly,

and

their fpirits

are low

in Conúderation of

the

Poore parts that

they

have that they

cannot

be

uf;.full

for

God

as

others

are

:

To

chew what

good

they

have or

what

Com-

fort

they

may have

from this kingdome

of

Heaven.

Thirdly

,

Thofe

that

are

poore

in

Grace

, that

are

fencible

of

their fpirituall poverty,

what .blefi'edneife

they have

from

this kingdome

of

Heaven.

Firfl

then,

chafe

that

are

outwardly,poore,

all

Godly

poore

people,

I

am

fpeaking

to them

,

and

I

verily thinke Chrift

fp,

akes

to them,

and

fo

would

have

his

Minif}ers

to

fpeake

to

them,

fuçh

as

are

for

the' outward eflate kept

low and

meane,

and

yet

God

gives

them fpirits to,fubmir

to

his

hand

in that,

and

are willing

to

honour

God

as

they are

able in

that

poore

Condition, without

murmuring.

Chrifl

jefus

doth

pronunce

you bleifed..this. day,

and

tells

you

that

yours is

the

kingdome

of

Heaven

;.As

if

he,

fhould

fay,

be not you difcottraged

b

--

caufe you are meane in this

world

;

For,your

fpirits being

fu-

table

to

that Condition God

bath

put

you

in,

the

Lord

hath

appointed

a

kingdome,for you,even the kingdome

of

Heaven.

You
