Why

it

is

a

Relied

thintobeamourner,

97

if

it

be

fan6ified, it

kills the vermin,

it

kills our

Tufts,

and

is

a

fpeciall meanes

ofmortification

in

the

foule

;

And

therefore

bleffed are they

that doe mowne,

and carry

themfelves

bra-

cioufly

in

a

mourning condition.

Thirdly ,

It

is

that that delivers

from

mmy temptations

you

thinke

that jollity

and

bravery

is

the

onely

happy

life,

but

know

there

are

a

great

many

more temptations

in

that

life then

in

a

mournful!

condition

:

It's

true,

there

are

temptations

izn

a

mournful!

condition

;

there's

temptations to defpaire,

but

that's

grievous to

nature,

or

to

fhift

for

themfelves

in

fome

unlawfull

way.

But

now

the temptations

in

a

jolly

condition,

it's

very futable

to

a

mans

nature,

and

therefore more dange-

rous,

and

therefore

bleffed are

they that

are kept

in

a

mourn-

ful!

Condition, if

God

gives

them hearts to

fanaifie

his

Name

in

it.

Fourthly,

They

are

bleffed

that

are in

a

mournful!

Condi-

tion,

becaufe

God

hath chofen for

them that

mourning

condi-

tion

in the

molt

feafonable

time:

you know when

a

mamis

ficjte,

then

bitter

things are more

feafonable

then

fweete-:

Nòw

we

are

all fickly

poore creatures, and

it's

a

great

mercy

of God

in

this

time of

our lives

to

choofe for

us

a

mournful!

condition,bitter

things

rather then fweete

and lufcious

things.

And

if

God

Both

fubdue thy

heart,

fo

that

thou

canf}

be wil-

ling to take this, bleffed

art

thou

;for

thou doeft

now

mourne

when

it

is

moll

feafonable

to

mourne

;

A mournful!

fate

its

a

feafonable

flue

for men, confidering what

Conditions

we

are

here

in,

in

this world Thou

wouldef}

be choofing

of

Jollity,

juf}

like

a

poore

feke

man

that would

be

choofing

of

fweete

meats

;

but

bleffed

art

thou

that

art

willing

to

be

under

the

choyce

of God:

Fifthly, And then efpecially

here

in this

text,

becaufe

they

fhall

be

comforted

;

it

is

but

to make

the

Comforts

thee

when

they

The Lord

his own

will,

and working

thee

to

fort

;

you

know

that

when

a
