God

hath

fet

it

in

;

But

if

a

mans

body

be

diflem-

pered

through

fickn;,ife

and weaknelfe,

then

he

can

neither

work nor

relish

any

thing,

nor injoy

himfelf

in

any

thing

that

by

lath,

and

therefore

it

is that

man

delires health

above all

outward

b!e'.iings,

what

is

it

for

a

rich man

to

have

wealth,

and

a

great eflate,

and

not

to

have

health

;

what

is

it

to

a

man

to

have honours and

preferments, to

have

friends,

and all

the

de-

-lights

this world

can afford,

when

as

he

doth

not

enjoy himfelf

in thole things

:

Now

fin,

it

is

the diflemper of

the

foul,

that

which

puts the

foul

out

of

tall,

and takes

away

the

excellency

of

all

it

doth enjoy

:

Therefore

it

is fo

oft

in

Scripture

compared unto

things

that

are

the moll

loathfome

;

Nov

when grace comes

into the

h

tart, it

prevailes

againfl

all

the ill

humours of the foul,

and brings

health into

the fpirit,

it

makes

the

foule

heälthfull

and haile

in the

fervice of

God.

Secondly,This

righteoufneffe

is

a

fpark

of the Divi

nature,

that

exprellìon we

have in

'tis

divine nature

that

is in

be, the

foul by

this

comes

to

live even

as

God

himfelfe

doth,

and

is

not

this

very

defirea-

ble.

Thirdly,

It

is

the

very Image of

God

in

the

foul,

and

art

Image reprefents

a

thing

in

the chief

excellency of

it

;

As

the

image or

a

tenance,

his

face,

image of

a

man

it

reprefented

by his

face which

is

the glory'of

the man, or the head

;

So

Gods

in

us

is this righteoufneffe, inherent

grace,

the creatures

have the footfieps of

God

upon them, in all the creatures

that

are

in the

world

we may

there
