even unto

this

Prophefie. And frequently wee finds

imp

Scripture

in

times of

the greaten dinrefs of

the

Church

there were the

clearel} Prophefies

of Chrift ,

of

the

Mee

Tacob

prophefies

of

Shiloh

when hee

was in

Egypt;

and Daniel of

the

Medias

when

bee was

in Captivity,

in

when

the

four rea

why

the

Lord would have

the

Prophefie

of

the

Medias, at thofe times efpecially, when

the

Church was

in

a

fad, in

a

fuffering

condition.

Fir{},

Becaufe

that

the

onely comfort of all the

Saints

of

God then,

was

their expectation of

the

Melfias

to

come ,

God would therefore propound

Chrin unto

them

as

that

thatmight-

lightenall

their

darknefs

,

that

might

fweeten

all their

forrows,

and

troubles;

and indeed

there

was

enough

in

this,in their

expe,`tation of the

Saviour

that

was

to

come

, this

was

that that

made

rs

their hearts

in

the

middeft

of all their

forrows

;

joyced,

and

was

glad.

Secondly

,

Therefore had they the clear manifenarion

of

Chrifc

in

the time of

their

outward

troubles, to

confirm

their

faith

in this,

that

how

-ever their

enemies prevailed

much

againn

them,

yet

it

was

impoffible

that

they

fhould

root out the

Nation

of

the

Yews

,

for

the

great

Saviour

of

the

world

was

to

come

out

of

them,

therefore

they were

under Gods

proteaion,

and

though

they

might fuffer

What

,

yet they could not

ceafe

from being

a

Nation

, be-

caufe

that

the

Medias

was

to

come

out from them,

and this

was

a

great idcouragement unto them

to expea

mercy

from

God,

becaufe they were

a

people

that

the Lord

would bring

The

great

Saviour

And

then thirdly, That

by

the

propounding

of

fo

mercy

as

Jefus

Chrin fhould bee

to

the

world,

they

might

have

a

help to their faith

,

that

furely God would

not

deny

them leder

mercies: what

great

matter

was

it

for

them to
