Mr. Caryl's Prayer. For the manner [with patience] Let us run withpatience, Patience is neceffary. i. Partly becaufe of the lengthof the Race, and the diftance tweeh us and the promiCed Reward : Our race cannot be ended, but after force degrees of time ; longwaiting is troublefome to the Hear, and therefore we have need of patience. 2. Beattie we meet with many impediments, troubles and temp- tations by the way ; there are fpiritual adverfaries with whom we mutt fight; for, we go on, We not onely run, but fight ; therefore run withpatience, &c. 5. OH our Father, what a priviledge is this that we may draw near to thee! all ourfral fprings are in thee; the creature is but a dry heap, a barren wildernefs ; tis but a ciftern, and a broken cifiern; it has no water of its awn, nor can it hold that which ispouredinto it : Oh that our hearts were taken off, and dif-engagedfrom all things on this fide thy Pelf, that we could fay with thy fervant, Whomhave we in Heaven but thee ? andon earth, there is none that we defire in eomparifon of thee ; then though our fleth and hearts fail us, yet God would be our portion for ever.
