God

doth much

differ

2,

The trouble

of

confcience in

the

wicked

arifeth onely

from

the apprehenfion

of

Gods wrath

and

fear

of

judgement

for

finne,

not

for

the

finne it

felt

and

from

the

love

ofholineffe

:

But

that

in

Gods

children arifeth

chiefly for finne,

and the

want

of

tl

apprehenfion

of

Gods

love

unto

thei.n

:

How

long

wilt

thou

forget

me,

O

Lord

?

for

ever

?

how

long

wilt

thou bide

thy

face from

me

?

Mark

whence the

trouble

of

the

Pfàlmi1

came

:

This

was

his

trouble,

that God

did

hide

his

face.

3. Trouble

of

confcience in

the wicked

never

maketh them

part with

finne, never breedeth

a

hatred

of

finne

in

them

;

but

that

in

Gods

children Both.

True it

is

that a wicked mans

troubled

confcience

may make

him

vomit

up

his

finne, like

a

dog

that

vomiteth

up

his

troublelome

meat

:

but

he

doth

not

vomit

up

his

t

omach to

that

meat

;

for

when the

trouble

is

over

he

returneth to

his

vomit again.

So a

carnali man retur-

neth

to

his

deadneffe

of

heart again, and

to

his

fecuritie

again

when the trouble

is over.

Pharaoh, whiled

his

confcience

of

Gods judgements, O

I

pray, Mofes, let

me

have your prayers

;

and

will

let

you

go.

If

the children

of

Ifi.ael

could have packed

up

and departed

while

this

trouble

had lafted,

they

might have

been

gone,

But

when he

there

That

in

the wicked driveth

them

from

God

:

They

have

little

heart

to come

unto

him

:

They

fee

nothing but

wrath;

and

they rather go

about

to

eafe

in

other things then to

feek his

favour

:

as Saul fought eatè

in

mufick,

and

Cain

in

building

catlles and

cities,

and

Judas

in

a

defperate courle.
