34 ZbeOífpiap of tD#pUoewe t Or, The Work of our Mediator is not bare- ly to fee our Peace made, or to labour by Intreaty to bring each Party to Moderation, and pliable Terms, and to fee every thing done according to the Preliminaries agreed upon; but the whole Work of making Peace is folely committed to our Lord Jefus Chrift, not to fee others do it, but he himfelf doth it all, even all that God requires on his part, and what is neceffary to bedone for us, in us, and by us alfo. I. Let it be alto confidered, That Godwould not make any Covenant of Peace with us without a Mediator, without fuch a Mediator; and that Jefus Chrift alone is the Mediator, Tira.2.5, is evident, There tis one Mediator between God andMan, even the ManChrifb'elk I fay, God chofe his Son to be the Mediator of this Co- venant of Peace : and hence he is Paid to be !fa. 42. 6, given for a Covenant unto the People, that is, as force conceive, To be the Mediator thereof.
