things are urged
by
Mr-
Goodwin
to
give proofe ofhis
interpretation
of
thefe
words
of
the
Holy Ghoft: faith
he,

is meant
by
this
Heavenly
guift,certain
is
it
that
by
tafling,
is
not meant
any
light
or
fuperficiall
impreon
made
upon
the hearts
or
foules
of
men,
through
the
fence or apprehenfion
of it
,
but an emphaticall,
inward
and
effeltuous relifh
and
fence
of
the
excellent
and
Heavenlyfweetneffe
and
plea
-
fantneff
e
ofit,
oppofed
to a bare
[peculation or naked
apprehenfion thereof. The
reafon hereof,
is becaufe
thetofling
of
this
Heavenly
guift
here
fpoken of, is not
mentioned
by
the
Apoftle
in
a
may
of
eafing
or
extenuating the
finne
of
thofe
that
fhould
fall
away
from
Chrift, but
by
way
of
aggravation
and
exaggeration
of
the
heinoufneffe
and
unreafonableneffe
thereof,
and withall
more
fully
to declare
and
affert the
equitableneff
é
of
that
feverity in
God,
which is
here denounced
again
if
thofe,
that
¡hallfinne the
great
tune
of
Apoftacy
here fpoken of.
It
mull
needs be
much more unworthy
and
provoking
in thefight ofGod,for a man
to
turne
his backe
upon
and
renounce thofe wayes
,
that
profefon,
wherein God
hath
come home
to him,
and
anfwered the joy
of
his heart abundantly,
then
it
would
be
in
cafe
he
had
