Chap. Cerxrnentgrie vpon Themeaning is this.Paul here faith,he receiraednot the Go- fpel of mil : becaufe he recciued not theoffice to teach and preach the Gofpel from anymeere man. For here he fpeakes of himfelfe as he was an Apot}le: and then an Apoíile proper- ly is Paid to receiue the G ofpel, when he receiues not candy to know and belceue it, but alto topreach it. And he addes fur - ther, that he was not taught it,that is,that he learned the Gofpel not by the teaching ofany man, as formerlyhe learned the law a; the fete ofGataliel. The lahwords [hat 17 the reuclationof lef.44 Chrifir ] carrie this f nfe ; but } learned and recciued it of Chril} , who taught me by rcuelation. Further , Reuelation is twofold, oneordinarie, the other extraordinarie. Ordinarie is, when Chrift teacheth men by theword preached, and by his fpirit. In this fente the holy Ghot} is called the/pirit ofret4elati. on,Eph. 1. t 7. Extraordinarie is, with the word preached, and that foure waies. Firfl, by voice. Thus God taught Adam and the Patriarkes. The fecond,by dreames, when things reuealcd were reprefented -to the minde in Ileepe. The third is vií on, when things reuealed are reprcfnted to the outward fenfcs of men beeing awake. The fourth is inhinll, when God teacheth by inward motion and infpiration. Thus did God vfually teach the Prophets. 2. Pet. t. 21. Now the reuelation which Paul had,was not ordinarie, but cxtraordinarie, and that partly by vifion, partlyby voice, and partly by in[}inef, AEt.9.& 22. Ìt may herebe demanded, whereChrif} was, whether on earth or in heauen, becaufc Paul heardhis voice, & law him viíblv.I anfwer, hewas not on earth, but in heauen : and that Paul both faw,and heard him,it was by miracle ;whereas Stephen in like manner lawChrif}, he law him not on earth , but handing at the right handofG od in heauen: for otherwifcthe openingof the heauens had bin a needles thing. Thee wordes then are a confirmation of the former verte, on this manner. Theauthoritie whereby I teach, and the do- &rine which I teach, I firh receiued and learned it,not of man, but immediatly ofChrifl: therefore.the Gofpel whichIpreach is not humane, but diuine , and preached not byhumane, but ¡by d;uineauthoritie. Iti the (copeand fenfe of the words, many points ofdoarine are contained. The fir(}, that Chrih is the great Prophet and DOElour of the Churcln,Math.17, e. Hcarehim, and 23.8.One 5 to 15 2a z5 3.© 31
