VER.22.
falsch,
that
is
which
maketh full him
who
fHerhall
s» all.
The
firft
thing
to be obfervedis,that Chrift
is
made
as
a
head,having
a
more
neere and
communicative foveraignty over beleevers,
then
o-
ver any
other. Lookeas the
King hath a more intimate and amiable
fu-
periority
and
regiment over
his
Queene then over any other fubjedt
;
fo
it
is
herein Chrift our King, whole
dominion
toward
his
Church,which
is
his Queeneand fpoufe,is
more amiably tempered
and neerely
affe
&ed,
then
is his
government over
any
other:
This
will
appeare
byconGde-
ring
how much
neerer and communicative
he is
to
us
then
to
Angels,
creatures otherwife moftexcellent. Firft, looke
as
the
naturall
head
and
membersare
of
the
felfe

fo
doe the members alto
:
this
it
is that
Chrift
is
one
with
us,
in
regard
he
hath
taken
the felt
-fame nature
with
us, ftanding
as
well
of
that which
is
outward and fenfitive,
as
ofthat
which
is
inward
and intelleétuall
:
In
this he
comment
neerer
us
then
Angels;
he
woke not the
nature
of
Angels,but the
feed
of
Afrah4fre
Hehr.a.
Secondly,
Chrift doth
by
his fufferings
procure for
us
all
bleffings
fpirituall and
temporall,maketh
a
purchafc
of
them with
his
blond:Now
he
in his
death
refpc&ed
not Angels
in like kinde
;
that looke
as
Kings
provide many thingsfor their Queens, which they
doe
not for
other
fub-
jeCts,fo
doth Chrift
for
us.
Thirdly,he doth
unite
us
to himfelfemore
neerely then
Angels;
they
are united
to
him by knowledge and love, fuch
as
doe
come
from
the
power
of
that
underftanding and love
which they
have
of
their
owne
from the
firft
creation:but we are united here by knowledge
of
faith
and
love
5
hereafter by glorious
light
& love,fuch
as
Chrift himfelf by
his
fpi-
rit
begetteth
in us
;
as
the members of the body
are united with
nerves
and finnewes; fuch bands
as
take
their
beginning from the head.
Fourthly,he
Both
communicate with
us
that whole
life
of
grace
and
glorywhich we
have,and
!hall
receive,
as
the
naturall members have
no
fenfe
or motion which
floweth
not
into
them from the
head
:
But the
Angels
have
a
bleffed life
;
for
the
fubftance not comming to them
by
Chrift,confidered
as
a
mediator,even
that
bleffed life
in
which
firli
they
were
created,that
which commeth to them
is
onely an augmentation
of
happinefl'e:
their illumination
and
their4y
being
in many regards
much
increafed
;
they who learn, by
that they
obferve
in
the Church
falling
out,
what doe they
hearethinkewe
by injoying
the
pretence
of
God
-
man, now
afcended and glorified
c
and
they who joy
in heaven at
the
converfron
of one
finder, how
many
waies
by
Chrift

their
joy

Fiftly,
he
doth not
dire
l
them
as
he doth
us ;
he
doth
governe
and
dire&
them
as a
King
doth
voluntary ready fubje

by
an
external!
fig
-
nification
of
his will
onely;
but
he doth dire& and move us,outwardly
by fignifying
his
will,inwardly by
fending his fpirir,which might
move
us
with
efficacy
to that hee fheweth,
as a
naturall
head
doth the
mem-
bers
ofit.
