Say
they, we
could
not be thechildren

There

rebellion

Parents,ours,
becaufe we were
in his

3.
There
is
the habituall averfion
of
our mindes from
God,
which they
grant
an
habituall iniquity, for which little
ones are guilty
of
wrath.
We
hold further that for concupifcence,
that
is,
the
rebellion
of
the
law
of
the members
againft
the law
of
the
Spirit
of
God, that
for
this,
as fin
properly, they
are
the children
of
wrath
:
This the
Papifts deny to
be
fin,
and will have
it fin
onely becaufe
it
was caufed
by
fin, and
is
the
matter
of
fin,
but
not
fin
properly. Concupifcence
is
fin as
caufed from
fin,
guilty with
that
guilt which
it
may caufe. Concupifcence
not
fin
properly,not
a
foundation
of
guilt
in it
felf,
but both the
habit
and inde-
liberate
motions
are
fins
forbidden
in
the Law
:
for there not
deliberate
confent,
but the root,even the
teeth
and
the
pallions
of
it
unconfented to
;
for
the other
are
forbidden. In
the former,
fuch
a
thing
is
here forbid-
den
which
Paul
could not attain
to
but
by the Law
;
now
he
was
no
cyclop.
Again, Paulcalleth
it
fin, and
giveth to
it
the formali
caufe
of
fin.
Whatfoever letteth the whole ftrength
and
might
from obeying
the
Law,
is
againft
the Law
and accurfed.
God would
not
have created
man
with
it; why
t
becaufe it
is
not
in a
reafonable creature
a
pure ataxie
but
an
iniquity
:
and
the
goodneffe
of
the
reafonable creature
is
the con-
formity oi.the powers
ofit
to the Law
of
God. That
power which
is
bound to be conformable and
is
not, that
power
is a
breach
:
But fuch
is
this ; for
the Law
requires
that
all our
powers
