be

brought to

this perfection

;

as

if

he fhould have fpoken more

largely.

Who

hath chofen us,as

who

fhould have

that

fupernaturall being and

life

of

Love, yea, that we

fhould

grow to

fuch

a Elate

in

it,

that

we

fhould be pure and

holy, without

the

and

that

in his

glorious

pretence,

whom

we

fhall

fee

as

he is.

Threethings

then here

offer

themfelves

toobfervation.

a.

That

God

hath

of

Grace, chofen

us

to

that

fupernaturall

life

of

love, which

is

to

be

perfeEted

in

the heavens,

a. That

he

hath not onely

ofgrace

chofen

us

to

this

life, but

to

the

perfeétion

of it.

3.

That

he

hath

of

grace

taken

us

to

have this

perfeEtionof

life

to

his

own gloriouspretence.

To

handle

them

briefly

in

order.

to be

of

a

or

This

is

chiefly perfehtion

of

Love, which doth

make

the

foule

glorious, even

as

whiteneffe maketh

the

:

thus

God hath

loved us,

that

we

fhould

not onely have

fuch

a

life of'

God

given

us in

the

as

was due

to ournature,

and created

together with it, but

fuch

for

that nature created

Look

as all

of

us

who

have this naturali life and

being,

which now

as

men

and

women

all

of

us

have,we were loved

of

God,

fo

far,

as

to

receiveit

in

Adam, and be

brought to

it

through him,

and

:look as all

that

fluff be

born to the

end

of

the world,

and

be

in

time, men and

women,were

loved

of

God,

and

chofen

as

it were,

that they

fhould in

their times have

the

nature

ofman

fo here

we who

now have this life

of

God

live, and

all

that

ever (hall

have

the holy

life

which the Spirit

ofGodworketh

in

the

hearts

of

be-

leevers

;

we and they were from eternity

chofen,'thatin

time we

fhould

have it derived and

propagated through

Chrift.

Now

this

is

to be

mark-

ed,

that

being chofen

to

have

this holy love,

the

Divine nature, we are

chofento faith alto

for look

as all

who

are loved

to the receiving

of

this naturall and bodily being and life, are

together

chofen

to

this, that

they

!hall

be

born

of

Adam,

and have

a

naturali nativity

from

him

:

fo

all

who are chofen

to

have

the

being

of

holineffe

and

love,

are

together

ta-

ken

ro

this,

that

they

(hall

have

a

that

is,

they

Let

us

then

firft

recount

his wonderful)

love

to

us,

whom

his

Spirit

hath

in

any meafure

fanEtified,

and

made

us

to partake

in

that

Divine

nature which commeth from

Chrift

;

we deeme it his favour and wor-

thily,that

he

hath made

us

Men and

Women,

not

Toads, or

Creatures

of

fuch vile being

:

but how

much more are

we

bound

to

him

that

he

us

not left

us

to

fuch
