On
the excellency
of Chri
lot
in verf.I.
The
former
Treatife have
Imade,
OTheophilus,
of
a
that
yefus
began both to
do
and
teach
;
why
Lsik,
is
hee
that writ the Gofpel, and the
A&
s
,
hee writ the fumme
of
what
Chrifi did teach
in
the
whole
courfe
of
his
life and
yet
here bee
tells
us
that
hee
did
make
a
Treatife,
and did
relate what
Jefus
Began
to.
do
and teach
;
if
one
should
have
faid
to Lute, Why,. did
you
not
relate all
that
Jefus
did
do,
and
preach? why Chrift
is dead
now.
But the mean
-
ing
is
this,That indeed
all
that Chrift did
preach
perfonally
when
hee
was
herein
the world
,
it
was but
a
Beghining
Chrift
was'to teach afterwards
to the
end
-of
the-
world; and
that
hee was
to
do
partly
by
his
Minillers that fhould
bee to
the end of the
world
,
hee
doth
exercife
his
Prophetical
Of-
fice by
them.
And
by
the way, whehfdever
you
come
tohear
any
Mi-
niiier-
of God
to
reveal
any
thing
of
the
Gofpel
to you,
you
are to look upon it
as
Chrift exercifing
his
Prophetical
Of-
fice
in
this way
;
hee
is
wonderful
in teaching
in
this
;
that
hee doth
not.
ònclybyinaruments.,
but immediately him-
felfmany
times
;
where there
is
want
ofmeans;
wee
may
there
expe6
Jefus Chrift immediately
to
reveal the
Will
of
his
Father to thefe
fouls
that
do belong
to
Ele5tion,
8
And
then Chriflis
.wonderful in .teaching
,,for
hee
teaches infallibly;which
none can do.
Likewife
many
other
particulars might bee named
in
the wonder
of
Chrifís
Pro
-,
phetical Office,
b'tit
time
doth
flip
mee,
therefore wee
will
proceed to
the next thing
in the wonder of
Chrif} ,
only;
take
this
along
with you
,
That
in
your
beleeving
in Jefus
Chrift,you
mull
beleeve in him
as
Chriil,that
is
Anointed
by
theFather,King,Prieft,
and Prophet
;
and when
you exer
--
cite your
faith upon him
in
all
thefe three
of
his
Offices,then
you
will
know what
it
is
rightly
to
beleeve
indeed.
But
to
go. on.,.
