the Excellency

of

the

Soul.

a45.

And fecondly,

All our

fouls

do now

naturally wander

a-

way from

God

,

continually depart

,

and wander

from

the

infinite

glorious-firft-being of

all

things

;

Thou

that

art

an

old

man

or,

woman

that haft

lived many years,aud God

hath'

not revealed himfelf in

working

the true

work of

conver-

fion

in thee,

to

change thy

eftate

, know,

that

thy

foul

bath

been departing and wandring from

the

Lord all the

dayes

of

thy

life

,

to this

very

prefent,

thou

art like

a

loft

fheep,

wandring

up

and

down

in

the

wildernefs ,

and

in danger to

bee

deftroyed every

minute

of an hour

by

Lorne

wilde

beaft

or

other;

though

it

is

true,

thy

foul

is

not

made

a

prey

to the

Devil

fo

as

to

deftroy

thee

utterly,

yet

thou

haft been

in

danger all

the

while thou haft

been

wandring from

the

Lord

to

bee

made

a

prey

upon

by

the Devil

,

and

utterly to

have

been

caft away.

Yea, and

thirdly

,

There

is

a

great deal

of

mifery upon

thy-

foul

,

if thou

kneweft it; as,

contrary to that light

that

bee hath fet up

in

thy underftanding ,

there

is

blindnefs

in

thee, there

is

errour

in

thee

;

contrary

to

that

he

linefs'that

was

at

firft

in

thy

heart

and

foul

,

there

is

nothing but fin

and wickednefs , all

the

fpauns

and

feeds

of

all kinde

of

fin

is in thy

heart

;

there

is

a

great deal of

that

evil

that is

contrary

to

what thy foul was made

withall at firft,

there

is

enmity in

thy

foul.

against

God

himfelf.

Yea,

and

fourthly, Thy foul

is

in

a

fuccourlefs,helplefs,

fhiftlefs condition in

refped

of

what thou art able

to

do ,

or what

all the creatures

in

heaven or

earth

are

able

to

do

for thee

;

let

all the Angels

in

heaven

,

and

men in

the

world

, joyn together

to

feels

to

do good

to

tity foul

they

are not

able

to

deliver

thyfoui

from

that evil

that

now

it

is

in, and

that it

is

in further

danger

of.

And

this

is

the

rea

--

fon

of

that phrafe

that

you

have

in

Luke

19.t

o.

The

Sox

which

was loft.

We

are

all loft

and Jefus Chrift came

to

Leek

and

deprived of

the

glory

of

Souls

wandring away

from

God,

Souls
