There's

a

good

Connexion

of

thefe

two

;

fome

men

are

willing

to

do good works, and

to

be very

beneficial'

to

others,

having uncleane and

guilty Confciences

of their

owne,

and

think thereby to

flop

the

mouths of

their

Confciences

:

They

are

Confcious

to

themfelves of vile baie wages,

and they

live

in

fome

fecret

haunt

of wickedneffe, and

fo

they think that

if

they be

mercifull

to

others

,

and

doe

fome

good

works, that

will ferve turne

to

flop

their

Confciences.

I am

perfwaded

that

many

flop

their

Confciences with

fuch

things

as

thole are,

But

faith

Chrift, doe not deceive

your felves in

that,

Blef ed

are

the mercifull,

they

fhall

obtaine mercy

;

but

he adds

this too,

Bleffed

are

the pure in

heart;

There

muff

be purity

in

heart,

as

well

as

mercifulneffe

;

There

may

be many

works

ofmercy

done

by

fuch as

are

uncleane and

bale-hearted

;

And

there=

fore

looke

to that,

that

your

hearts

be

clean

and

pure.
