We are de- livered from this evil world. Secondly, It's a world, that the Devil (in Scripture) is called the god of, and the prince of this world ; -2 Cor. 4.4. Whofe eyes the god of this world hath blinded. Surelyall the good things that God bath to communicate toHis Saints, are not of this world, that is an evil world, that is a world that the very Devil is godof it (in scripture phrafe.) Thirdly,Aworld al whole bravery and pomp and glory it is not of the Father. 70h. 2.I6.you have an Epitomy there ofwhat the excellency of the world is ; for faith he, All that is in theworld, the lofts of the flesh lulls of the eyes,and the pride of life: Under thefe three heads are all things that themenof the world look upon as definable ; either they are the tufts ofthe flesh, the lufls of the eyes, or the pride of life : But faith he, All that is in the world,is not of the Father,but is ofthe world. Surely the chief things that God hath to communicate to His Saints, are not of the things of this world ; for all that is in theworld, is not of the Father, And wouldeft not thou have the riches of the Fa- ther ? Fourthly, As all the excellent things are not of the Father, fo the truth is,a11 theglory that is in the worldit is but darknefs,it is a dun- geon of darknefs to a fpiritual eye : As the Bats can fee in the night ; fo the men of the world they think they fee fome glitte- ring here in the world but in the language ofScripture, and to fpiritual hearts, it is but darknefs: Hence the Apof le Eph. 6,12.
