Oh now, by all means, hewouldcover and hide this monftrow Image fromhimfelf, and others : he would not for all the world fee himfelf, nor have others feehim,thus vile, and thus miferable, but the contrary to admire himfelf, to mag- nifie himfelf as good, excellent, and holy ; but when Jefus Chrift comes, he wil in defpight of all mans wifdom, and cunning, and power, difcover him tohimfelf ; he (hall whe- ther he willor no, behold his own (lape , fee himfelf in his own colours: Thenhe cries out, Oh miferable man that I am, who fhail deliver me ? Lord help me, I amundone,' am aman ofpolluted lips ; and withPeter , Lord help or I perifh, I (hall fink ..for ever into this bottomlefe gulph,from whence there is no redemption. He fees now thevail rent, andhimfelfloft for ever : and that filch is the bottomlefnefs of thisgulph that he is in , that nothing can redeem him thence, but only the blood of Chrift ; no hand can helphim,but only the infinit bottom leffe mercy of the Son of God. He fees now nothing in Heaven or earth, no righteoufneffe of men or Angels could fuflice for his ranfom, but Jefus Chrift alone, the Son of God himfelf, muff lay down his life to redeem him out of the nethermoít hell : Now Chrift revealing this to him , he hereby afcends up into this mountain, and there he fees, and there hebath all his wifdom, all his power, all his life, all his meat, all his living maters : here, he now hath all his teachings ; he now fees Chrifts mountain exalted upon the top of all mountains, above the top of all mans mountains, of wifdom, power, holineffe, &c. though they havebeen raifed in mans efteem never fo high , and efteemed as the mountains of the Lord; he fees his knowledge nownicer fol- ' Iy,his wifdom,darknefs ; his righteoufnefs, fin ; his power, weak-
