fecond

thing to

be marked

is, that he

which

doth

teach us

,

That

the

How

To

patticu-

larly,

thofcthat

they bring

forth

fruit pleating

to God,

fruit

to

men,

to

themfelves.

Now

on the

contrary,looke

at

the

of

unregenerate men,

they doe

they doe hurt theirneighbour,for

Wherefore

let

to

It

muff

make

us

avoid

fin as

hurtfull

to

us ;

doe with

fin,

as

we doe

with crafty

Brokers, we will not talke with

them,

when

we know we

cannot

fpeake

but

they

will have

us

at advantage

:

So

wee

the Devill

by

little

fins

greater,

as

wood

cleavers

by little

wedges make way for greater.

g.

This

confideration maymake

us never

wonder at

that

abundance

of

fin,

it

is

an unfruitfullthing, and evill weeds

grow

apace and

come

upthick.

Now

the third thingfolloweth,

viz.

That[uch

who

mullreprove

and

convince thole

that

in evill.

But it

is a

queftion

what

manner

of

reproofe

is

here

to

be meant

;

fome

fay,

that

oncly

which

is

in

the light

of

works, not

that which

is

made

by

word;

their

reafons are

thefe.

x.

Brethren only owe a reproofe by word to brethren.M4.18.

if

thy brother offendthee,

&c.

a. This

is

bidden

to

all

the children

of

light

;

Now

to reprove

is

a

duty to

fome.

3.

It

is

bidden by

the

heathen;

Now

they

are dogs and fwine, therfore

not to be

rebuked

by word.
