the Excellency

of

the

SON!.

fearful fruit of the

j+zílice

of

God

upon

man for

fin;

what,

is

this

the creature that bath

an immortal

foul

made

by

God

snore worth

than

ten

thoàfard

worllds

?that

lies

fcraping from

morning

to

night

in

á

kennel,

and bath no

other

thoughts

foL

anpbigher excellency,but

onely

if it

can

geta

lump of bread

to

live

by,

there

is

all

they

have to do,

as

if

they

were

born

for no

other

end?

Oh

?

think

thet,

is this

the

creature

that

hat`fach

an excellent

foul

?_

furely fin bath

made

a

great breach between

God and man,

and

hath

brought

inair

-ende

into

a

very

love

and mean condition, and

yet

worfe are

thofe

than thefe

that

have

no other ufe

of their

fouls

than

to

bee drudges to the

Devil,

and

!laves

unto their

lulls,

but

ofthis

wee

ihalt

fpeak

to

more afterwards

;

but

now

1

onely

mention

it,

as

to

give

a

hint

to the

meditation

Of

Gods juftice

upon

man

for

his

fin.

Thirdly,

If

the

foul

of

a

man

bee

of

fo

great

an excel-

lency

,

then certainly

it mail

needs

bee

an honourable

work for to

bee

buffed about fouls, an honourable. implóy-

ment

for

God

to

fet

one

man

or

more to

look

to, and tend

the

fouls

of

others

Oh

!

what

a

difference

is

-there in

the

imployrn:ent

between

working

in Wood

and Iron

all

day

long,

or

fcraping

in

the duff heaps

(as before)

and

in an

im-

ployrnent

of

attending

upon

fouls!

to

bee ufed

by

God

as

the

inflrument

of converting

of

there

fouls,'

and bringing

of

them

to

their former excellency in

which

they

were

made,

yea

and

to

raife

them to

a

higher excellency

than ever

they

had in the

firft

Creation!

If

wee prize

mens

employments

by

the

fubjea of

their

employment,

then certainly

this

is

the

rnoftglorious

imploymentthat

any

Creature

in the world

can

bee capable

of;

what

is

the

reafon

you

account

a

Gold-

finith

a

better grade

than

a Black

-fmith

?

but becaufe

of

the

fubjedl

that the

one works about

rather than the o-

ther

one

works upon

Iron ,

and the

other

upon Silver

and

Gold;

therefore

one

is

a

more honourable

Trade

than

the other

:

Now,

if

the

fubjea

upon

which

they

woek

makes

one

to

bee

more honourable

than the

other; what

Trade

in

the

world

can be

fo

honourable

as

the work of

the

Mini-

ufe
