further,

A loft foul

is

in this

condition alto,

to

be

continu-

ally

under the

ftroak of

Gods iuftice,

that

when it

hash

lain

under

its pains thoufands of

thoufands of years, faith divine

inflict, I

am

tacit

yet

fatisfied.

Nov

that

that

is

required,

is,

that'the

foul

thould lye under

the

wrath of

God, until

fuch

tim

that God

may

have

as

much honour by

punishing

ir,

as

bee

hath

had dishonour by

its

finning

againa

him

,

and

that

mull

bee

for

ever; becaufe

God

can never have

fo

much

honour by

the punifhingof

ir,

as

hee hath had

difho-

nour

by

its

finning

againtl him

:

(

And

then)

As

the

foul

thould

have had

eternal

communion with

God and

Chrift, &c,

it

being loll,

it mutt have

communion

inlead

.

thereof

with the Devil and

the damned

fpirits

in

Hell

:

And

if

this

bee

the

condition of

a

loft

foul

in

Hell,

as

it

is,

then

What

(hall

a

man gain

in

gaining the

world, if

hee lofe his

foul

?.

But

further, to

make this mifery

appear

to

bee mi-

fery

indeed,

There

is

required

a

perfe4t

fenfe of

all thefe

evils

:

for

a

man

or

woman

may

bee

in

a

loft condition

is

many are

now,

but

they do

not

underftand

it,

and there

-

fóre

are

not

fenfible

of

it.

But that

foul

that

is

loft

eternally,

the

Lord

thall

fo

far

enlighten its underflanding,

as

may make

it

fenfible

of

all

its evil;

certainly

many this day

are

in

fuch

a

condition,

as

did

they butunderfcand the loft

condition

they

are

in;

is

would make

them

tremble

:

But now, when

the

foul is

e-

ternally loft,

it

than

then

perfefly

underhand

what its loft

condition

is,

and then

the thoughts of

its mind

thall

bee

fo

bufied

about its mifery,

as

that

it

(hall

not

bee able

to

eáfe

its

felf

one moment,but

its

thoughts {hall be bufied about

its

condition,

fo

far

as

may

make

it

miferable; And the

Lord

is

able

to

make a creature

as

fenfible

of mifery

as

hee pleafeth.

For this

is

the

propriety

of God,

to

make

a

creature

as

fenfible

of all the evil

that

is

upon him

as

hee pleafeth; and

if

fo, then

when

all

thefe

evils

come

upon the creature

,

and

the Lord intends

to

make

the

creature fully

fenfible

of It

;

then certainly

it

mull needs

bee

miferable

indeed. Fur

ther,

then

this lofs

of

the foul

confifts

in

this,

That

it

mull
