on
the
Excellency
of
the
Soml.
of
ours
that
bee
bath
given
unto us,
that
is our
worlhip
;
that
is
the nature
of
worlhip,
The
_tendering up
fome-
thing
by
way of homage,
to
acknowledge
that
due refpea
wee
owe
unto
God,
as
that
Lord
that
bath the
abfolute
difpofe of us;
now
by
negleb
of woríhipping
of
God,
of
tendering
up
his
homage, thou
forfeitet
thy
foul, and
in-
dangereil
thy felf to
perifh
eternally
and
oh
how
few
people regard
any fuch
worlhip
of
God! and though
they
do the thing
that
God requires,
as
praying, and coming
to
hear
the
Word, yet
do
they not do
it
as
in
a
way
of
ten-
dering
up homage
to that
God , upon
whom
they
do
onely
depend; but
now
this
is
that
which
God
requires
of
us,
or
otherwife our fouls
are
forfeited.
Secondly,
Men forfeit their
fouls by
breaking covenant
with God;
however
there may
bee foam
that God
will
not
take
the
forfeiture
of,
yet certainly upon
thy breach
of
covenant
with
God
thy foul
is
forfeited
:
Thou
doll
ingage
thy
foul
to
God
every time thou doll
enter into
covenant
with
him
;
It
may beé faid
of
any man
or
woman
that
en-
ters
into
covenant
with
God,
who
is
this
that
bath
ingaged
his foul
to
God
?
now thou ingaging and binding
thy
foul
to God
in thy
covenant,
upon thy breach
of
it,
dealing
falfely, thou doll forfeit
thy foul
:
And by
thefe
feveral
waies fouls
are loft; and
oh
how
many thoufand
fouls
periflí
with fuch
tivaies
and manners
as
thefe
are
!
::and
therefore
feeing
there
are
fuch
feveral waies of the
lofs
of
fouls,
let
not
people think themfelves fafe, though
they
do
not
go in
fomewaies
whereby they
may come
to
,
lofe
their
fouls
;
for there are very many
waies
whereby thou
mayeft
lofe
thy
foul, and
fo
inifcarry
to eternity.
The other
Ufe
that remains,
is
this,
If
the
lofs
of
our
fouls
bee
fo
dreadful
a
thing,.
and
there
bee
fo
many
wales
for
the
lof
ng
of them,
.then
it concerns
us
needy
to
exa-
mine whether
wee bee
not in
fuch
a condition
for
:
the
pre
-
fent, that if
our fouls
lhould depart
out
of
our
bodies,
they
would
certainly
bee
loll
;
this
is
a
needful
fcrutiny,
and
a
moil
neceefary
inquiry
:
Many
men
have
thefe
thoughts,
