Rule
without

preached by immediate

motions
of
the
Spirit
of
the
World,
are for
the molt part unto

wherein,though the
perlons with
whom he
deales,
may be in the
darke or
blind
,
and darkened
by him
,
yet
themfelves are

motions
of
the
Spirit

unto good
things, and duties,

ends

it often
falls
out that
they

are troublefome, vexatious,
perplexing,
grievous, and tumultuating. Sathan
falls
like lightning
upon the
Soule
, and
comes upon
the
powers'
of
it,as
a
Tempeft:
Hence
offing in any
thing

being
under
the
Spirit

bondage.

motions

they are lead,

orderly;
as

Gods
Covenant
with
us, ordered
in all
things, fo

Spirit
of
God
carries
us
out unto
every
duty,
in its own
order

feafon

fouie poore
foules
to
be
in filch
bondage,
as
to
be hurried
up
and
downe,
in
the matter
of
duties,
at the
pleafure
of
Satan.
They

one
to
another,
and commonly

which

they are
at
Prayer,
then they fhould be
at the
wor/

their calling;

when they are
at their
Calling,they
are tempted,for. not laying
all afide,and running

Pray-
er; Believers
knew that
this
is
not from the
Spirit
of
God,
which makes

ry thing beautifull

its feafon.

that
all
the
workings
of
the
Spirit
of Gad,
as
they
are
good,
fo

they tend
unto
a
good end.

God
may
beglorified,
his
Graces
exercifed in
them, their foulesftrengthened
in
obedience,
and their
progreffe
in Sanaifi-
cation
furthered?Doth
it
affure
them
of
the
love
of
God
?
It
is
that
they
may
be
more
humble,
thankefull, watchfull?
When
all
the
compliances and combi-
nations
ofsathan,
and mens
corrupt
hearts, evenwhen they
compell
to
good
duties,are
for falle, evill,and
corrupt ends:Duty
is
preft
to
pacify Confcience;
Peace
is$iven
to
make
men fecure; Gifts
are
¡timed
up
to
tempt
to Pride;
and
indeed it may
eafily
be
obferved,
that the
Divell never
Both any work,
but
he will quickly come for
his
Wages.
By
the
help
(Ifay)
of
thefe and
fuch
like Confiderations, the
Saints
ofGod,in
whom this Spirit
doth
dwell, are in-
abled
to
difcerne and know
the
voyce
of
their
Leader
and Guide , from the
neereft refemblance
ofit,
that the
Spirit,which
is
in
the
World,doth,or
at
any
time
can
make
fhew of.
And this
Indwelling
of
the
Spirit yeelds
a
confidera-
ble contribution
of
ftrength, toward
the
confirmation
of
the
maine Thefes
undertaken to
be
proved. Our
Adverfaries
difpute about the removall
of
ac-
quired habit.r,but
how infu
