the
Excellency
of
the Soul.
for they
are the very words of Ch rift
to
the
young
man,
That
bee
was
not
far
trom
the Kingdome of
Heaven;
and
there-
fore notwithi.tanding your
inability,
and notwithaanding
the
things
that wee
do are not the
things
that
fave us, yet
wee have
ground
enough
to put
on men and women
to
do:
Now the meaning of this
great
queftion
is
this,
What
is
the
way
that
God
ordinarily takes
to
bring men and
women
to
falvation
by
?
or how
íhould
I
follow
God
on in
his
way?
that
is
a
certain truth
of the
Ancients
,
Though
God
made
thee without
thee, yet
hee
will not fave thee
without thee;
God
works
upon
us
as
upon
rational
creatures
,
and
there-
fore
it
doti
concern all the children of men
that
would
have their
fouls
faved,
to
obferve
the
work
of
God, and
CO
íhr
up
what
is
in
them to
joyn with
the
work
of
God in the
way
of
falvation; and certainly whatever conceits
there
are
to
the
contrary, they
are
not oñely foolifh, but
extream
dangerous, and Satans policy
and
cunning is
exceedingly
much
feen
in them.
A
further
thing
that
I
would
premife before
I
come to
particulars,
is
this,
when
I_fpeak
of
any
thing
that
fhould
bee
done,
I
prefcrtbe no
particular order,
knowing
that
the
works
of
God
are various
;
And fometimes God
firs
up
a
foul
to
do
one
thing, and fometimes
to do another
thing,
but take
them in what order
you
will,
"yet
wee
mua
name
them
for memory
fake
in
fome
order, and God
expe
&s
them
from you, and you
arete
joyn
with
God in
thofe works,
if
you
would have
your fouls
to
bee faved.
7her
greet,Q.tteftio4,
of
what
wee
fhould
de
to
bee
faved,
tnfoered.
Firfl,
If
you
would
have your fouls faved
,
do
you joyn
with
God
in what bee
bath
revealed
to
you
concerning
your
loft condition, labouring
to
underf}and
thofe
truths clear-
ly,
that
are
delivered in
the Word
concerning the
loft
con-
dition of fouls
by
nature, and
°to
work thofe
truths
upon
Your
hearts, to
bee.fenfible
of
them
Thofe .whom
God
